Acupuncture, I believe, has a very strong part to play
in helping with the above and is a special interest
of mine, helping both male and female partners with
any infertility difficulties or problems.
Working along side western medicine, for example IVF,
IUI etc. I work with someone on a physical and emotional
level, getting the body ready for conception and pregnancy,
helping with the drugs and stresses of assisted fertility,
together with improving their awareness. I also treat
ladies throughout pregnancy for general well being,
supporting the body through the various changes and
challenges of pregnancy. Acupuncture can also help with
various symptoms associated with pregnancy.
Five Element acupuncture is an holistic form of medicine,
and its success can be attributed to the way it works
with the body as a whole as well as treating a particular
condition.
With fertility issues, as a Five Element acupuncturist,
at each treatment I use acupuncture points aimed at
improving fertility, these points vary depending where
a lady is in her natural cycle or at what point she
is with her assisted cycle. In addition I use acupuncture
points for a constitutional treatment for general well
being and health. The two together are hugely beneficial.
Each treatment is very individual. I do not believe
that ‘one size fits all’.
From a western view point acupuncture can:
- Help improve the function of the ovaries,
with the aim of improving the quality of a women's eggs
- Regulate hormones
- Relax a patient to decrease their levels
of stress
- Increase the blood flow to the uterus,
helping to thicken the endometrium, aiding implantation
|
- Decrease the chances of miscarriage
- Strengthen the immune system
- Lessen the side effects of the drugs
used during IVF/assisted fertility
- Help improve the quality of the sperm,
increasing the chances of natural conception and helping to create better quality and quantity embryos

I have a lot of experience with working with a wide
variety of clients; ladies, men and couples, from those
wanting to conceive naturally, to those wanting support
whilst going through assisted conception. Couples who
have had several failed assisted attempts have conceived
naturally, once starting treatment. Studies have shown
that acupuncture has a marked influential benefit for
both Natural and Assisted Fertility.

Once pregnant acupuncture can continue to benefit the
mother and baby. Regular treatments to balance energy
during pregnancy can influence the development of the
baby, increase energy levels and help prevent complications.
From a western view point acupuncture can:
- Relieve morning sickness and hyperemesis gravidarum (severe vomiting which threatens to cause dehydration)
- Alleviate bleeding, tiredness and headaches
- Relieve heartburn, constipation and hemorrhoids
- Reduce discomfort from sciatica, backache, pubic and joint pain and even carpal tunnel
- Encourage breech babies to turn
- Stimulate contractions and bring on overdue labour
- Speed up healing after Caesarean section
